Work/life balance is the concept that you should prioritize your work life and home life according to what brings you the most achievement and enjoyment. Sounds nice, right? There are a million articles on work/life balance and even an entire site dedicated to the concept.
While this idea works for some, I’ve found that my work life and my home life often distractedly interweave instead of the graceful, compartmentalized scale that comes to mind with work/life balance. This has been true whether I was working in a startup environment, a corporate office and especially now when running my own business. The best work/life balance for me is one that allows me to bring my whole self to my whole life.
So how do you handle your work/life stresses and bring your whole self to the forefront?

For me, it has a lot to do with yoga. I’m not an expert yogi by any means, but I am a busy entrepreneur who lives in front of phone/computer screens for most of the day. Winding down with 30 minutes of yoga each evening - or a quick 10 minutes in the middle of the day when I need a break - is the perfect way for me to get myself inspired & refocus my priorities. Some people might even say exercise is part of your job.
Whatever your yoga is, the thing that inspires your creativity and focus, I encourage you to bring it into your everyday life, at work, at home, before a meeting - whatever works for you!
I recently caught up with Caitlin, an Emergency Medical Responder and yoga teacher, for some great insights on how she brings her yoga practice into all aspects of her life.
Caitlin also has a really great offer for our readers!

An Interview with Caitlin of CaitlinPickett.com -
Tell us about you & your yoga background.
Caitlin: I am first a yoga lover and enthusiast of all things wellness! I’m a new Yoga Instructor but I also work full time as an Emergency Medical Responder. I work primarily in the oil and gas industry which means I’m away from home in very remote locations in Northern Alberta & BC, Canada. My schedule is two weeks at work and one week off at home, and while I’m at work, I’m technically on-call 24 hours a day incase of an emergency.
I’ve been practicing yoga for 4 years now and because my full-time job has me away and on the move a lot it’s hard to stay loyal to one studio. The majority of that practice has been making up my own home core practice and sticking to it or following along on YouTube videos.
How does your yoga practice impact your work life?
Caitlin: Lucky for me I have JUST enough space at work to roll out my mat! I practice yoga for anywhere between 30-90 minutes a day. It’s something I do for myself, my peace of mind and to warm up my body. I absolutely love yoga so knowing I have the time at work to do a session gives me something to look forward to everyday!
What advice on balancing a stressful schedule would you give to an always-on-the-go entrepreneur?
Caitlin: A quote I like is “If you don’t have fifteen minutes a day to meditate then you need an hour” and I believe this to be so true! Especially for busy movers and shakers who are on the go. Taking time to slow down (or sweat it out!), reconnect with your breath, and quiet all distractions of the mind is actually a great way to refresh and re-energize yourself for whatever projects you may be working on.
What are you up to next and where can we get contact you?
Caitlin: I understand that in this day and age people are travelling more for work or too busy to get to a studio which is why I’m launching Virtual Private Yoga Sessions!
